GROS and NAS to merge

MAJOR news - Scottish ministers yesterday gave their support to the proposal that the General Register Office for Scotland (www.gro-scotland.gov.uk) and the National Archives of Scotland (www.nas.gov.uk) should merge. In other words, it is going to happen.

There are no details as yet as to when this will formally happen, but my understanding is that there are no plans to affect the level of service provided by each organisation. It is unclear as yet as to whether Registers of Scotland (www.ros.gov.uk) is to be included.

More news as I get it...

I think what I read indicated that RoS would not merge with GROS and NAS but that there would be closer working between RoS and the other organisation(s).

Hi Kirsty,

I've been told that there is a huge question mark on the feasability of that, hence why it is still unclear. Must admit, I would have thought it easier for RoS and NAS to merge, than GROS and NAS!
