English and Welsh National Burial Index 3 launched

From Marian French of the FFHS:

The Federation of Family History Societies is pleased to announce that the Third Edition of the National Burial Index (NBI3) is now available.

NBI3 is available on a single CD and contains over 18 Million burial records.

Copies are available from FFHS at a price of £30 for first time purchasers and £15 for upgrades from NBI2.

For further information and details of how to order please visit our website

I have very kindly been given a review copy of the NBI version 3 by the FFHS and it is absolutely fantastic - very easy to install and to use. The disc does not contain the actual burial records in full, but is instead designed to tell you who was buried and where the original records are held, and so acts very much as a finding aid. It should be noted that this is a significant upgrade from version 2, qhich has about 12 million entries, and which in itself contained more entries than those currently hosted on FindmyPast.co.uk.

A Scottish edition was planned some years ago but was sadly parked as a project, but would certainly be a wonderful resource if it ever did again come up for consideration. In the meantime, if your Scottish ancestors moved south, or if you have English or Welsh ancestry, this is definitely for you!
